Airing Dirty Laundry Vs. Online Organizing
I find it awkward when union members, organizers, staff, etc., find their way to an online venue to air out dirty laundry in public. I think certain things are better left inside the office -- and should NOT be open to everybody's commentary. I also don't think that having this point of view is censorship; I think that is a whole other conversation. Someone I talked with recently said that this kind of online complaining, to some, is similar to online organizing -- but clearly I disagree; perhaps you think differently -- let's discuss it when you can. I guess what disturbs me is that there is enough money, energy and people working against unions in this country already -- we should not fuel that fire, in my opinion, with airing our dirty laundry in public; I fear it will be used against us in one way or another -- and especially online. With the push for the Employee Free Choice Act a lot of business groups, including the Chambers, are out there pushing messages to create fear in everyday people -- folks that might not be glued to labor laws governing this country's workforce. These groups will, at some point - if it hasn't happened already, will look for every excuse to put out there as to why the Employee Free Choice Act is not good for the United States. What if these "people" start reading websites and forums where union members, with undoubtedly valid beefs, air their dirty laundry? I am open to being wrong on all this, but over the last few days a lot of inside ball is making it online -- open to the public; and I am not feeling cozy with all that being out there. If you want ... you can discuss this with us over at the Forums, where I posted it first. Just click here. |

General forum
Could we have a general forum for random union discussions? I would like to discuss and hear other members opinions on the auto bailout or lack of one and how I feel it's nothing more than a form of government union busting.
Thanks for the suggestion
I went and set it up ... go check it out.
Thanks Richard, but do you
Thanks Richard, but do you really think we need to have the forums set up where the comment has to be approved?
I suppose it doesn't really
I suppose it doesn't really matter -- I just set it up so it was like the main blog segment of the site, but I can probably lift that ... Maybe more people would use the Fourms if it were lifted.
Chuck - settings
Chuck,
I looked into changing out the settings for the Forums. I was told that until I do some further upgrades, I can't have the Forums up with an automatic posting (no moderation), while the blog and main pages require moderation. I am going to revisit this all in a few weeks and see what the costs would be, etc. I just wanted you to know that I am looking into it.
