Carpenters during economic downturn

I have been a Chicago union carpenter for 30 years. I want to know how carpenters in other regions of the country are dealling with the economic downturn. Is everyone just hunkering down? Are locals providing expanded services to members? Can we use this forum to brainstorm on ways to fight back?
