Get some USA and Union made stuff

Workboots and other USA and union made stuff

the BIG bad guys .... I hate these 2 companies firstly because the union workers made them popular , the BIG drop off in the quality of the products and thirdly , the under handed movement of their textile jobs to outside the US .....

img165/8578/redwingzf2.jpg

hmm better check under those labels , most new Red Wings arent made here anymore , they took our word of mouth advertising , became a BIG name and are leaving the country , as far as i can tell there is no mention of the products made here in the US on their website , so i guess they arent advertising that bit of information . Come clean Red Wing the working people put you on top , now you leave us ? Oh and the imported versions seem to be about $5 more expensive than the American counterparts .

Carhardt was building a new factory here in the states (aprox. 1998)when i first got in my union , they were building it Non-union , we had a boycott of their products and they promised any new factories would be built union , so the boycott was lifted , since then they haven't built anything here in the states , but they did around the world . Now 2 pairs of pants are made here in the states and are roughly $7 more than the Chineese and Mexican counterparts .

thats it , thats the BIG savings for the loss of jobs and conditions for the working man and woman ? Why bother buying their shit for that price if its not made here ?

so spread the word , make sure your brothers and sisters check the labels , red wings is right under the tongue

Wesco - West Coast Shoe Company

has some serious footware , some pricey stuff indeed , the stock pair below , the Jobmaster will run $309.00 after $75 discount

the pair i customized would run about $500+ and take 6-8 weeks to make and ship , but i threw in steel underlining , toe , thinsulate , two-tone leather , maybe for Christmas if someone loves me enough Laughing

about Wesco

"The Shoemaker family knows the boot business. Beginning with founder John Henry at age 16, through four generations of family leadership, we've built boots with tradition right here in Scappoose, Oregon. We're proud that our boots are handcrafted in the USA with all American-made materials. Have been since 1918. So whether you operate heavy equipment or climb power lines for a living, ride horses or Harleys in your spare time, or just have an undaunted passion for the great outdoors, you can bet we make a boot for you.

You should see how a Wesco boot is built. There are 155 steps required to take one through completion and you can be assured that every last gusset, stud and stitch is checked and double-checked before it leaves our factory. In the words of our founder... "a shoe is no better than the leather it is made of - and all the leather on the market is not worth a 'whoop' where there is no shoemaking skill.""

Really great looking boots , high priced , but if they preform , hmmmmmmmm

Wigwam Sock Company

Link to homepage

" Represented by UFCW Local 147T

Wigwam have been making the greatest socks in the world, since 1905 (originally as the Handknit Hosiery Company). They make 'em in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

My grandfather bought me pairs of Wigwam socks every year for years. They were always my favorite so you can imagine how thrilled Mandi and I were when we learned that unlike almost every other union apparel manufacturer, these guys didn't pack-up shop and set-up sweatshops overseas, but kept on doing exactly what a good company should do- treating their employees right, and producing the greatest socks on earth.

Did I mention these are the greatest socks? Well, they are, and they also come in tons of other technical, sport, and medical styles. If you want them, we'll get them for you and add them to our regular line. "

as far as i can tell they are still made Union here in the USA , i buy a lot of the Merino Wool ones for the winter , very well made

"In a global economy, where quality components come from all over the world, New Balance continues to manufacture a percentage of its shoes in the USA. New Balance has five factories in New England - three in Maine and two in Massachusetts. With a high-quality labor force, unique modular teams that are continually challenged to offer creative alternatives to foreign competition and the confidence to be different, New Balance is able to survive and thrive, taking a leadership position in an industry that has sent most of its production overseas."

Union Made Computers:

Union Built PC

from their site

Union Built PC is organized by CWA Local 1101, IBEW Local 17, and UWUA Local 223.

After dozens of years of working in the labor field as members, officers, and activists, we started Union Built PC in 2001. That is when we realized there was a strong need for a new computer company, one that focused on International

and Local unions and the organizations affiliated with them. We found a deep need for a company that would deal fairly with labor, offering the kind of relationship that we knew was possible: a mutually beneficial one that would last decades. We also wanted to make our company fully unionized, from top to bottom. We have achieved all of that and more.

We have very creative and innovative staff, certified and experienced techs, professional trainers, and skilled assemblers. And they're all union members.

Call us today and enlist Union Built PC for your Local or International union's Information Technology needs.

The staff of Union Built PC, Inc. have been members of the following Local unions and Labor organizations over the course of many decades:

ShopUnionMade.org coming soon

I've partnered with Ethix Ventures to help build out and host the ShopUnionMade.org site. The products listed there will all be checked for accuracy to ensure they are, in fact, union made.

What I find particularly exciting about this project is that anyone can submit a union-made product for consideration. This method of collecting intelligence is known in Internet and technology circles as "crowdsourcing". See the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowdsourcing on wikipedia for some background.

This is part of what it means to open up the labor movement to members and workers. The Union Label & Service Trades department used to run the shopunionmade website. If you remember, it was badly out of date and not kept up very well. The new platform will allow anyone to submit products they know (or think) are union made. These products will then be reviewed to ensure they are, in fact, uinon made.

The system will working in the very near future.

USA made

As stated above, be careful, even these links start out with american made, but some will also go to china made. http://www.madeinusa.org/ http://buyamerican.com/ http://www.howtobuyamerican.com/ http://unionshop.aflcio.org/shop/index.cfm USA Made Socks

There are still goods made in the USA - high quality and affordable. Take socks for example. Burlington brand is manufactured by the Kayser-Roth, Corporation located in Greensboro, North Carolina. I have some of these and in fact they last longer than the cheaper socks made elsewhere, thus, actually a better buy when life of the item is factored in. They have a web site http://www.burlingtonsocks.com.

(and I buy socks at dollar general for my husband. They are grey and you get like 3 pr for $5.00 and they are USA made.) But now I will have to check out the above link.

Forums

Steve,

I will write you a note today, but the more I think of it the more I believe Shop Union Made should be one of our forthcoming forums. This article that Joe posted, along with your comment and Chuck's ... we can get people discussing where they shop for what and when, etc. I think it would be a big help for people that are seious about where they shop, no matter what it is they need.

-Richard

Yeah, we'll set that up when I set up forums

OK, that's a good idea. If it works, then we can always move the forum onto the official SUM site.
