Massive Accident Involving Mexican Trucks Leaves Four People Dead!

The American people are outraged with the Department of Transportation watching the government agency break the law by continuing with the Mexican trucking pilot program.

We reported here earlier in the week that Mary Peters’ DOT was going forward with the program, allowing Mexican trucks to travel across the United States, despite the fact that a provision scrapping the program was writ into law.

The outrage stems from a few issues – the safety concerns topping the list. This is why the CNN report today about a deadly crash on the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge in Texas, which then temporarily shut down the U.S. – Mexico bridge, needs to be realized at a much deeper level.

We reported that the Teamsters filed a letter earlier this week in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, and have a hearing on February 12th. At that time, we will – one again -point out that accidents similar to the one that occurred last night, can and should be prevented. How? For starters, by following the law that is now in place!

How Mary Peters and the Department of Transportation can continually spin the safety concerns with the Mexican truck program to be nonexistent is beyond our wildest imaginations. Today’s news is case-in-point.

The fiery crash involved two tractor-trailers out of Mexico that collided and soon after went up in flames. The accident took the lives of three people, including a man from Texas.

It is a known fact by now (or should be) that the pilot program creates a dangerous precedent on American highways. The Mexican drivers are simply not held to the same safety standards as their U.S. counterparts. The drivers do not have the same training or experience as U.S. drivers.

How many more deaths do we need to report before action is taken to finally end this Mexican truck pilot program?
