National Review

The editors of the National Review said that this piece of legislation was dangerous because unions routinely use violence to achieve it's goals or some such nonsense. The key words here is routinely use violence. I spent an hour or so looking up stuff and I could not find an example of union violence anywhere. Why Do we keep letting folks get away with demonizing us. Why won't anybody do anything. I don't know how as an individual I can take on these organizations. I try to get the word out as best I can. it is time for us to stand up for ourselves. We can't keep letting them call us thugs and goons it is not right. Please advise as to what an individual can do. For all my letter writing all I've managed to do is be ignored. |

fighting back
We do fight back. Everyday you remember that there are brothers and sisters in your union, you beat folks like National Review. Everytime you talk to some random person about what it means to be in a union, what it means to have brothers and sisters in the stuggle are always victories against these jack asses.
Solidarity means that we come together and everytime we do, they are afraid and when they are afraid, they will take a brush and with broad strokes, they will paint us with the actions they themselves take.
So, when you read their comments and they make their statements, say what you have to, clearly, loudly and with the strength and honesty of those who have come before all of us. From the women at the Triangle Shirt Factory to Wesley Everest and to the current struggles for representation so many are fired for trying to obtain.
And when you do speak, know that you're not alone. We're all with you.
In Solidarity

You are not alone
There are many working Americans making a big noise on the Employee Free Choice Act every day of the week. We are doing it with our International Unions, Local Unions, Joint Councils. We are doing it with Change to Win and the AFL-CIO, and American Rights at Work. We are making noise and setting the record straight on this website and many other sites that are not fearful of speaking the truth behind the Employee Free CHoice Act.
Hang in there ... while at times it might seem like you are walking in a ciccle, talking to yourself, know that you are not alone in this!

Thank you for the
Thank you for the encouragement and in no way was I trying to say that I was shouldering this myself. My point was just to say that we need someone to stand up for us. We are truly in need of now more than ever a working class hero. While you folks on here our some of my personal heroes we need someone to take these guys who say whatever they want in order to keep a boot on the neck of workers on. I will keep doing my best knowing that the rest of you will too. Happy Thanksgiving.
Employee Free Choice Act
I went to the search bar on Union Review and typed in "Employee Free Choice Act," here is the link: http://unionreview.com/search/node/employee+free+choice+act. I got more than 9 pages of articles that make mention of the Act in one way or another. You are welcome to go through some of those and get your voice heard on these stories.
Also, on www.Teamster.org there is a top issues button called "Sign the Petition" You can click on that to see one union's work at the International Level -- no doubt, just one in many.
For me and a lot of other people in DC, we fought hard and loud to get Barack Obama elected. One of the main reasons is because he has stood behind and backed the Employee Free Choice Act. He was the main presidential candidate who had gone on record for working people in this country; and it worked, labor overwhelmingly got out the vote.
Since he has been elected, business groups are coming out in droves to put fear in people's minds and hearts about the Employee Free Choice Act. I, purposefully, leave the Google ads on this site promoting some of this BS with the hope that we all can learn what the other sides are saying, how they are saying it and what they are doing. Knowledge is powerful and right now we need, more than ever, to be united around a strong knowledge base.
What many of us are doing online is going to every single article we see that is counter the Employee Free Choice Act, and signing on to comment. I am doing this on a daily basis, seven days a week; and clearly I am not alone ... some of the others out there doing this are here with us on UnionReview.com, some of them are on other sites, regularly. You can check out: DailyKos.com; TeamstersOnline.com; Joesunionreview.com; UnionGal.blogspot.com -- and so many others.
Right now there is a big deal on Capitol Hill with the Big Three automakers looking for a bailout. A lot of people, right away, are looking at how much the auto workers earn; yet, we don't get a lot of news about millions the CEOs of these companies are earning, and ...two of the three have gone on record to say that they are not willing to make a personal concession, but would love their workforce to do that for them.
This kind of twisting in the mainstream news media all comes back to us ... whether we are in auto plants or not. When we get up and talk about legislation that we need, like the Employee Free Choice Act, they are going to throw in our faces what an automaker earns ...as though they don't deserve that wage? I say bullshit ... let's keep the focus where it needs to be.
With hardworking people like you and me, we are going to help people get their focus on point. If they want to talk about a particular group of workers, like the UAW sisters and brothers, sure ...let's engage them, but if they want to twist that into a conversation about the Employee Free Choice Act -- let's do that too, and tell them about union organizing in this country -- how it is easier to join the US Marines than it is to get a union card.
Keep up the excellent work, brother!
