As most here know, I am big on our unions using as many web tools available to mobilize, organize and spread the word of their work. One of the primary reasons for my obsession with this is to counter the excessively wide void of labor related news found in mainstream media outlets. This is why, to a degree, Union Review came about in the first place; as did Joe’s Union Review and UBC Newsroom.
Now the Teamsters Union is getting its voice out on yet another platform – this one is called Teamster Power. When you go there you might see that it resembles a little of Union Review – and its functionality is more-or-less the same. I am only 50% of the reasoning behind that; the other 50% is the work of our friend Steve at Prometheus Labor Communications.
Teamster Power is set up so that the newest entries will go the homepage while automatically getting archived in the respected division. For instance, if there is a new freight story … you will see it on the front page as well as on the Freight Division section of the site. When folks comment on a story, it will appear where the story is; in other words there is no need to copy and paste your comments at every showing of the story.
I think it is important to realize that Teamster Power is a news blog and not a forum, like Teamsters Online. Our friend Jimmy’s site, which feeds Union Review news, by the way, is another amazing web tool for Teamsters interested in learning about issues affecting their work, and providing their take on this or that situation.
Do we need another labor site? Do we need another specialized site? Yes … and … yes! I am a strong proponent for the more the merrier; the more – the better informed we are as working people and citizens of this country.
