This California registered nurse tells her story about workplace violence. She speaks about a fellow employee who was recently choked by a patient who lost his way. The worker was practically unconscious by the time they were able to get assistance. Her message is clear and strong about the need for a Cal/OSHA workplace violence prevention standard.
She says we have to have a regulation in place that addresses workplace violence prevention in healthcare facilities.
We have to have a standard in place that protects us in our workplace as well as protecting our patients, our coworkers and any visitor who comes into the facility because when it is left unchecked anyone who walks into that facility — being a patient, being a visitor, being a staff person — can be a victim of workplace violence.
