Union Launches Facebook and Myspace Pages
I am not sure if there is any relationship between the news that the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and a conversation held at the Metro NY Labor Council last week, but it sure was timely to learn that the union, today, launched both a MYSPACE and FACEBOOK page. The union distributed a press release earlier that said it launched the two new web pages “in order to get voter protection information to a younger demographic, AFGE sees college students as a driving force in this year’s presidential race, which makes it important that they understand their rights and responsibilities as votes,” said John Gage, President of AFGE in the release. Just last week I had the chance to talk with a group of labor communicators about online / new media mediums to get the message out there. Two of the “tools” included Myspace and Facebook, so it was cool to see that AFGE launched both today. Does your union have a presence on any social networking sites? |
